Ranger 26 Review – coming soon!

For Sale:

1978 Kent Ranger 26′ – $10,900  – 5/1/2015

Seller: David Rynning – 206-948-4427

  • 2014 Yamaha 9.9 4-stroke engine with electric start
  • Fuel tanks: Two 12-gal and two 3-gal
  • Two batteries plus A/C shore power, VHF, Stereo
  • Main plus 3 head sails
  • Sail cover & Bimini, 2 anchors
  • Spare centerboard pendant and custom-manufactured stanchion sheave housing *
  • Facts and help are available on www.ranger26.com and a review of the boat is published in Small Craft Advisor (Issue #39 May/Jun 2006); the article includes a photo of our boat, formerly Spontaneity.

This boat also appears in the June 2015 48 Degrees North classified pages.

* This boat comes with a spare, stanchion sheave housing, one of the few available replacement parts for this otherwise impossible to replace. It was included when I bought Green Eyes and remains with the boat. (It is one of the new castings made and sold only by the Admiral & Ranger26.com). I had the assembly checked out when we purchased and there’s no corrosion/leak issue on this boat; I think most problems were on boats with the inboard engine-related plumbing.

Desperately seeking a fine, small cruising sailboat to carry me in comfort and safety down the St. Lawrence River, the ICW and Florida Keys….would the Kent Ranger be a safe boat to do this in?

I think so. She is well built and strong. With her shoal keel, she’ll let you in and through shallow waters. If you get into a blow, you can reef and handle most storms. At least one of her sister ships has sailed around the world, but I think she is too small for that myself. Bruce

Well, I owned La Dolci Vida in San Diego about five years ago and thought I would chime in on the seaworthiness aspect.

The Kent Ranger 26 is not appropriate in offshore situations and I sure would not want to be in one in a gale! However, she is seaworthy for most coastal situations but I really want a bit more heft in a boat. You can expect her to be “tender” in winds over 15 knots and at first you have to get used to the fact that she heels over quickly. After that she remains fairly stable…..

    Drew here,
To David Rynning. Is your Ranger 26 still for sale. Is it the Dark blue Hull with the white deck shown above ?
Does it have a trailer ? How do I set up a time to see if still available. I am in Portland .

We are selling our 1981 KR 26 “Even Star”. Just posted on Craigslist Seattle (8/8/2016) for $8500. Boat is in good shape with many extras. Reason for sale is that we are purchasing a larger boat to better fit our needs. Boat is located @ Jim Clark Marina, Harbor Island, Seattle.

I am looking for a trailer for our KENT RANGER 26. If anyone you know has one please have them contact me at 360 774 2150. We now own EVEN STAR & are thoroughly enjoying her. Gary & Nancy Fredrick – Port Townsend. p.s. If someone has a trailer they would consider renting – we would be interested.
